Very excited to try this spot. The tasting menu was the perfect amount of food, I’m a little full but not stuffed. The food was fantastic - if you’re looking for drown your sushi in soy sauce and wasabi - this is not that. It is simply excellent fish - needing nothing more than a pinch of salt maybe (which they put on the plate - don’t let the other reviews fool you). The Monk’s “Chirashi-Sushi” small plate was one of the best things I’ve ever put in my mouth! Like spring in a bowl, every single bite was perfection. The glass of Muscat was a perfect pairing. The Rockfish & Mussels main was sooo good - get it. And if you go midweek there isn’t a crowd, the service was top notch. Kind of a little hidden secret in the Arts District. Very unique food tastings, not large portioned but very meticulous prepared dishes. The atmosphere is very minimalist and matches the food. The service was excellent. They could use something to liven up the mood but definitely worth the experience Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $50–100 Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 3 Recommended dishes: Vermillion Rockfish and Sweet Bream Sashimi, Chirashi Sushi with Grapefruit Legumes Pickled Yukka Flowers Roast Almonds Snow Peas Recommendation for vegetarians: Somewhat recommend

We were really excited for Yess and wanted to celebrate my parents birthday at a special place. Unfortunately, the food and service let us down. Super sleek and aesthetic open kitchen couldn’t make up for under-seasoned food, inexperienced wait-staff, and a kitchen struggling to keep pace on a busy Friday night. For more than $100+ per person, diners have the right to expect more. A few shortcomings: - Dishes came out slowly. After the fourth appetizer, our party were already full and sleepy. - I had a nice glass of sake. I may have ordered more but the restaurant will never know because they never bothered to ask. - Appetizers were quite tasty but main dishes were bland! All dishes could have used a bit more salt and flavor. - We did enjoy the interesting desserts. - Worst slight to our party was upon departure. We noticed the chef posing for a few photos with other guests as they left. We were preparing to do the same but as we approached he looked away and headed back to the kitchen. What did we do to get the cold shoulder, chef? Just spent almost a thousand dollars but got disrespected.
