This restaurant provides you with nice food and a place to rest after a long walk around Honolulu Fish Auction. Try Japanese cuisine here. You will enjoy its food, particularly perfectly cooked nigiri, shrimp tempura and salmon sashimi. The best dish is tasty mango pudding. You will appreciate delicious beer at Yohei Sushi Restaurant. As most guests remark, coffee is really good.

This place is well known for its great service and friendly staff, that is always ready to help you. Many reviewers have noticed that the dishes have attractive prices. When you enter this place, pay your attention to the nice atmosphere. But this spot didn't get a high score on the Zomato rating list.

Overall 4 stars:  Great little hole in the wall sushi restaurant.  We came here for a work lunch and I was surprised by the menu and prices.  They had some sushi items usually not on the menu of most sushi restaurants, like namako.  And the lunch set/combinations were reasonably priced, most between $20 - $30.  But for this price you can get sushi, tempura, and soba all together. Food 4 stars:  I got the sushi, tempura, soba combo.  The sushi was ok, the quality not the same as high end sushi places.  But it was not bad, maybe the same quality as kabuki or gyutaku.  The tempura was good.  It was crunchy and not oily.  The Zaru soba was also good but, how can you mess that up.  Everything was flavorful and priced right. Service 4 stars:  The service was good here.  We went on a busy Friday.  Service was still attentive and the food came out relatively fast. Ambiance 4 stars:  This was an old fashioned sushi restaurant that looks and feels that it has been there for a while.
Stumbled upon this place to eat randomly since it's right next to Hana Tea and it caught us by surprise.  A little bit on the pricer side but definitely worth it!  The bento box choices are a great choice because you get so much variety.  A hole in the wall place that was busy on a weekday for lunch.  Highly recommend but come with an appetite!
***3.75 STARS*** I cannot recall the last time I came to Yohei Sushi Restaurant (YSR).  I remember dragging my whole family and at that time my sister's BF (today's BIL) after being so rudely attended to by the waitress at a nearby restaurant. We hadn't ordered yet so I looked at one of my sisters and asked if she'd be embarrassed if we walked out.  She asked me "Where would we go?" My reply to her:  "Follow me."  Destination was nearby YSR.  I vividly recall most of my family ordered the tempura dinner set that just wowed them.  It was such a memorable dinner for me as both of my parents really enjoyed the food. With so many options for Japanese food I have neglected YSR.  Last night I decided to drag favorite niece and nephew by default here for dinner.  I made last minute reservations and glad I did.  The restaurant was PACKED when we arrived.  There was a short wait but that was okay with us because the waitress brought over menus to study and informed us the specials of the day. The highlight of the meal was the service.  We were very pleased with the wait staff on the floor.  Despite the full house, they kept on checking up on us with our beverages, to see if we needed more rice, etc.  After ordering our meal, we wanted to order other sides and sushi.  Regardless they were busy, after blurting "SUMIMASEN..." one of the ladies immediately came to our table. And for the food, sadly it was a hit or miss.  Perhaps too many misses during one meal. After taking favorite niece and nephew by default to upscale restaurants, their palates have matured and perhaps possess higher standards now. Throughout the meal, all it took was one bite to see if it was good or not.  The winners were hands down the fried food (shrimp tempura, branzino, shiso & geso tempura and Amaebi heads), geso shioyaki, chawanmushi and the rice.  A handful of items lacked finesse. The soba was too thick and starchy.  The spicy chicken side dish tasted like it came from a Chinese restaurant.  Thank goodness we didn't sit at the counter for omakase as we were majorly disappointed with the sushi.  We all love Ikura and it was thumbs down with us. Too heavily seasoned. Amaebi was good but they were much smaller than what we're used to eating. The oysters were really good but very small.  Four tiny oysters for $15.50 and IMO not worth it. The kitchen staff should also be commended as the food presentation was outstanding. The food was plated and displayed to us very nicely.  We did also enjoy the coffee jello.  To me this is their signature dessert as I recall eating this many, many years ago.  Glad to report the jello still tastes great.  Had a nice coffee flavor with some Azuki beans inside topped with whipped cream. Yum!!! Overall, prices here are reasonable and a great value for the volume of food you get.  That's probably the main reason why many locals come flocking here for dinner. However, we all concluded that we would have preferred less volume and of better quality instead.
