Everything is great about this hotel Staff are energetic and friendly In room onsen are great with real spring water Public baths are also nicely designed One minor complaint is that the room we had dinner and breakfast in has no aircon nor any fan and it’s almost unbearably hot to eat there in summer Service: 5

Just checked out from this hotel this morning. I have been stayed hundreds of traditional Japanese onsen hotels for the past 30 years. It’s too shock to see whole black mold tatami paved on shower area aside private onsen in the room named AOI which I booked at ¥105,600 for 1 night! My wife and I dared not step into the bathroom because we know the mold / fungi would make us get warts on feet. A manager never revealed his name came to AOI room and claimed they clean the tatami in bathroom everyday and the color is not mold!! The hotel was fully booked and we had no chance to go anywhere after more than one hour communication by Google translation. We felt so tired and frustrated with his attitude which is far away from our experience in traditional Japanese onsen hotels. We came to a compromise to take a shower at 9:30 in a private onsen outside of our room and accepted $26,100 refund. It means I finally paid ¥79,500 for a room without private bathroom!! I would suggest anyone booked AOI to take a look of the real time photos I took yesterday and compare with information and photos on Yoshidaya website. The room itself was built and decorated in very low quality materials and poor maintained. The window frame is too dirty that we didn’t want to use the blinds. The wall is broken and stained. The glass door of bathroom is full of mold and sealing strips fell away long time ago. The Spring special dinner they boasts on website didn’t show on our table. We received very few and poor quality of foods. Sashimi course was provided only 1 small piece of raw fish and 2 small pieces seared semi raw fish which we never had in any other Japanese full course dinner. Not to talk about nabemono course was served with eggs on top of few kinds of normal vegetables… We are too disappointed about the foods. It’s a pity that I didn’t take any photos of them. Besides, the beautiful counter and professional chef image and menu on their website does not apply to full board guests. Our dining place was in a dark, worn and torn private room. Our menu was actually not specified when we booked the plan. My wife and I have been traveling 3 months around all Japan in recent half an year. We always respect, appreciate and enjoy Japanese traditional culture. This is absolutely a shameful stay ever!!
