Extremely disrespectful and upsetting experience. We’ve been coming to this restaurant regularly for weeks, which makes what happened even more shocking. During our last visit, the owner pulled my wife aside and told her we were “too loud” and were ruining the atmosphere, speaking to her in a way that felt patronising and completely unnecessary. We were speaking at a normal level. What made this genuinely infuriating was what happened immediately after: a large group of college students came in and were far louder than we were, so loud we could barely hear our own conversation. Not a single word was said to them. At the same time, there was a man in a suit sitting nearby, clearly being treated as an important customer. It very much felt like we were singled out and told to be quiet so he could sit in silence, at our expense. So we’re left asking: why were we the only ones approached? As foreigners, it’s hard not to feel that we were treated differently. The message we received was clear, we were less welcome. We’ve always been friendly with other customers and had positive experiences before, which makes this feel even more deliberate and unfair. Being pulled aside and spoken to like that was humiliating and completely out of line. If you want to enjoy a meal and conversation without being singled out or made to feel unwelcome, I would strongly recommend going somewhere else. I will not be returning, and will be taking my business elsewhere.
