Zagar's Charcoal Grill, located in Burwood East, is a fine dining spot that specializes in high-quality steak. The ambiance is cozy and intimate, with a dark brick interior design that exudes a rich European heritage. While the prices are on the high side, the quality of the food justifies the cost.
The menu is simple, with a focus on meat, meat, and more meat. The eye fillet and scotch fillet sausages are particularly noteworthy, cooked to perfection on the grill by the master chef himself. The homemade sauces, such as Japanese BBQ and White balsamic BBQ, are not to be missed. For those who prefer something other than steak, there are also charcoal grilled chicken and tiger prawns on the menu.
The wine list is reasonably priced and complements the steaks perfectly. However, BYO is no longer allowed. Soft drinks and cocktails are also available for those who prefer something non-alcoholic.
While the lack of presentation may disappoint some diners, the quality of the food and service more than make up for it. The owners, Dave and Sue, take great pride in their establishment and strive to provide a memorable dining experience for their guests. Entrance was deceiving. It lead us upstairs to a cosy dining room. Food was amazing. We were served homemade salad that is some kind of pickled cabbage. Looks simple but it was so delicious! We ordered 2 scotch and a rib eye, cooked to medium rare perfection. This place is a little gem. Will go back again.
