Zapata, a local eatery in Lisbon, offers authentic Portuguese cuisine at reasonable prices. The ambiance is vibrant and resembles a large family gathering with friendly staff who speak English. The interior design is simple and rustic, but the focus is on the quality of the food. The establishment is located near Barrio Alto and is popular among locals.
The menu features fresh seafood dishes, such as grilled sea bass, garlic butter shrimp, and fried tuna steak. The octopus stew, deep-fried octopus, and smoked mackerel are also highly recommended. For those who prefer meat, the marinated pork and clam dish is a must-try. Vegetarians can enjoy traditional boiled potatoes and fresh cakes for dessert.
Zapata is a cash-only establishment, but the staff is helpful and accommodating. The wine list includes an excellent house wine and some sneaky bottles. The bar serves Super Bock beer and local soft drinks.
Overall, Zapata is a fine dining spot that offers an exquisite experience of Portuguese cuisine. It is perfect for those who want to try local food without breaking the bank. The restaurant gets crowded quickly, so it's best to book ahead.
A local seafood favorite-- fresh fish, squid, and everything else, perfectly cooked to preserve the natural flavor. Our top favorite is the traditional cod fish dish, so delicious. It uses the local traditional salted cod fish mixed with eggs and shredded potatoes, which brings out the best of fish. The flavor is enhanced by some crispy pan fried potato strings in this mix-- so clever! We also had grilled squid and sardines, all perfectly cooked-- the best taste of sea.
Absolute hidden gem!! It's where the locals eat and I can see why, the food was delicious, service was great also. We had read they don't speak English but that's not true and also should never be a deal breaker when you're in someone elses country. Our waiter couldn't have been nicer and had fluent English. It was such good value for money for what we had, amazing seafood Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: €20–25 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes: Fried Cuttlefish with Garlic, Grilled Salmon with Veggies, Fries, Steak
Zapata was the first contact with Portuguese cuisine. Informal staff and home cooking are the initial features that stand out. Then, calmly, you enjoy and evaluate the excellent Portuguese cuisine with your own personal touch of "Zapata". The marinated pork and seafood stew (clams) is very remarkable, a true "Must". The fresh, sparkling house green wine.... and treacherous. Must try again. Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: €50+ Recommended dishes: Vongole Con Aglio Olio E Prezzemolo
