After scouring Old Saybrook for a place to eat at around 9 PM, when most restaurants were already closed, we stumbled upon Zhang's Restaurant. Despite the dimly lit and somewhat eerie surroundings, we were pleasantly surprised to find it open and welcoming. We ordered the Yang Chow Fried Rice and the Salt and Pepper Shrimp. The food was delightful, with the fried rice bursting with flavor and the shrimp perfectly seasoned and crispy. The generous portions were a pleasant surprise, offering great value for the price. The service was satisfactory; the staff were friendly and attentive, ensuring our needs were met efficiently. The ambiance inside was warm and inviting, a stark contrast to the somewhat unsettling exterior and location. Zhang's Restaurant stands out as a reliable option for late-night dining in Old Saybrook. With delicious food, ample servings, and reasonable prices, it’s worth a visit if you find yourself in need of a meal after hours.
