[aend] was especially memorable for me because it was my first time dining at a Michelin-starred restaurant. I’m already familiar with fine dining, so I had some idea of what to expect, but [aend] still managed to surprise me several times throughout the evening with bold flavours, unusual combinations and a lot of attention to detail. The evening started with several amuse-bouches, with the chicken skin, whey and flowers being the absolute highlight for me. I also really enjoyed the red mullet with corn, especially together with the Albariño. The wine pairing was one of the strongest parts of the evening. The sommelier clearly does not always go for the safest or most obvious option, but chooses wines that genuinely add something to the dish. Some pairings were quite distinctive and took a moment to understand, but that is exactly what made them interesting. The hospitality was excellent as well. I asked for a few changes to the menu during the evening and they were very flexible about it. Some of those adjustments were not even charged separately, which I thought was a very generous gesture. At the end of the evening, they also gave me a separate list of restaurants and other places in Vienna that the team personally likes to visit. That kind of personal touch really added to the experience. Not every dish was completely to my personal taste, and I would have preferred the venison to be cooked a little more, but almost nothing felt boring or predictable. For the price, I genuinely think you get a lot in return. You get several amuse-bouches, many courses, interesting ingredients, a well-thought-out wine pairing and, above all, a lot of personal attention. For my first Michelin experience, I could hardly have chosen a more interesting place. What stayed with me most were the flavour combinations, the adventurous wine pairings and the genuinely warm service. Definitely recommended. Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4 Price per person: €100+
