El Hueco is a wandering food truck that serves Peruvian street food. I was leaving the Scripps Clinic in Torrey Hills when I noticed the food truck parked on campus. Being the adventurous eater, I was curious how Peruvian street food tasted. * El Lomito bowl with avocado (1.75/5) - There wasn't anything distasteful, but there also wasn't anything memorable. It was essentially a grossly overpriced $12 glamorized "bowl" of Chipotle. That's not a compliment because I think Chipotle is also overpriced--albeit less so--glamorized college food. And to add insult to injury, the amount of food was more of a side than an entrée and was served in what was more of a child's plate than a bowl. I suppose the El Lomito was memorable after all. If you've never experienced buyer's remorse, give the El Lomito a try. * Inca Kola (3/5) - This should have been rebranded as Mountain Dew. At least it didn't have a movie theater concession stand price. * Yuca frita (3.5/5) - Imagine quality fries with a crispy exterior and a fluffy but starchier interior. The taste was also slightly different, but I can't quite describe it since it was five months ago. It's also why I don't remember how the aji aioli tasted. As the great American anti-Jewish Jewish hero, Larry David, would say, pretty, pretty good. Unfortunately, $5 for a small handful of fries is difficult to justify. Since they were made with yuca instead of potatoes, I can somewhat recommend them for the curious and adventurous. So why the 2/5 rating when most of the items above are higher rated? Entrées are more heavily weighted...despite weighing less than the drink; at least you won't have to worry about gaining weight (how's that for a triple entendre?). But hey, food trucks are cute and romantic, so El Hueco deserves 5 stars, yeah? In all semi-seriousness though, this food truck doesn't need 5-star food. Its clientele are business professionals who can't afford the time to drive to the nearest restaurant but can afford the convenience of Chipotle at their office building doorsteps (not a triple entendre but rather a measly double entendre). And that's perfectly fine (the business model, not the food).

Review is the same, just realized I spelled French friends instead of French fries. Oops.

I have never had Peruvian food before but this was excellent.  Tried the Anticucho Sliders with no salsa since I don't like spicy food and they were yummy.  The buns were homemade, fresh, soft and toasted perfectly.  The braised beef was crispy on the edges but still moist and tender inside.  Very simple but great flavor and quality.  Also had the Yuca Frita with the aioli and they were super yummy.  Lightly fried with sea salt and some herbs and the aioli was good and not spicy.  The portions were not huge but I can't eat a lot and prefer quality over volume.  Service was friendly and cashier was very helpful.
