Believing in the esteemed reputation of El Corte Inglés and the global prestige of the Byredo brand, I purchased two handwashes based on the presentation of a Byredo sales associate. This decision was made under the assumption of receiving genuine guidance, as our communication was clear and conducted in Cantonese, leaving little room for misinterpretation. However, the sales representative misrepresented the facts, and we later discovered that she had misled us. This deception led us to unwittingly purchase the item. I promptly brought my concerns to the customer service teams of both El Corte Inglés and Byredo. Regrettably, my efforts were met with minimal acknowledgment; a Byredo representative replied once but then ceased communication, despite my two subsequent follow-up emails. El Corte Inglés’ customer service, on the other hand, completely disregarded my complaints. As a traveler, this experience raises questions about the consumer protections available to international shoppers who choose to patronize renowned retail environments and brand counters.
