Absolutely fantastic. Owners and staff are super friendly, attentive but not overly so, and relaxed. The space is super comfortable, food awesome (vegetarian options available), and a nice wee shop too. Easy to get to by bus and perfect for solo, pair and group stays. Service: 5

I cannot recommend this place enough! My husband and I stayed here for one night as the final stop of our Hagi–Okan walk, but we truly wished we could have stayed much longer. We hope to return someday. Koukasha is located in a stunning area with breathtaking views—you can even enjoy them from the sauna! Everything is designed with incredible attention to detail, from the rooms to the bathing area to the wonderful food they have on offer. The owners are unbelievably kind and welcoming. If you want to completely unwind, relax in a wonderful sauna (and then cool off in the river right next door), and spend the evening with a book by the fireplace in the beautifully designed common space, this is the place for you. It’s truly a delightful spot—I wish I could give more than five stars! Service: 5
