We dined there last night, a group of four. The restaurant had a few other tables full but not many. The waiter (maybe the disinterested one of other review) was a little 'odd'. We got menus, no offer of drinks, and when we did order 2 beers and a glass of wine for me, along with our food order, he started grabbing menus til I said we still wanted to look at the wine list. He then disappeared without even asking the 4th guest at our table if she would like a drink! The food was good, duck spring rolls tasty, but maybe better if steamed not fried, but they did accomodate my food allergy to chilli with a different salad, the scallops and carpaccio was enjoyed by the blokes, and the panzanella salad looked and tasted best ever! Mains were good too, nicely presented, blokes both having the pork fillet, one lady had the barra which was a very filling meal, and I had the chicken ballotine, which was nice but let down a bit by the somewhat gluggy mash, not much of which I ate. Service was a bit perfunctory to say the least. We weren't offered sides, which probably weren't really needed, but our waiter did little to upsell anything. hubby had the cheescake donut for dessert and loved it, and kindly shared a little with me and our friend. my boss and I had the mandarin cake with blood orange gel and olive oil ice cream, which was nice but a little dry (but when I asked for a little more sauce it was quickly provided) all in all The Peppertree is a good addition to Gymea, where choice of places to eat is huge, but it could be great with a little more attention to detail, and a bit more professional service to match the fine dining aspiration & prices.
