One of the best food experiences of my life. From start to finish this felt like a special experience - the location, in a quiet corner of Nagano prefecture , the kitchen setup- all firewood stove and cast iron pots and the ingredients , listed out carefully exactly the farm that each thing came from (plus some of their own foraging) —- on top of that, the winery gio hills next door is award-winning and family owned/run providing a selection of local red white and sparkling wines. Everything about this place just oozes “care”. I felt deep gratitude to be able to be there and eat the food and hear the story behind the dishes. We stayed overnight above the restaurant and had a gorgeous breakfast by the same chef and served just for us - again , special special special! Cannot recommend enough - looking forward to going again, in a different season. Price per person: ¥10,000+ Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Style. Winemaker’s home. Setting. Next to Gio Hills winery and a small lake, run by 5th generation owners of the NAKADANASO in town Explore. Less trodden Komoro’s Temples and historical sites Rooms. Only one serene room above the restaurant, with a big terrace facing Mount Asama, Yatsugatake, and Fuji if you are lucky. The room was comfortable with floor heatings and I slept exceptionally well @ the hotel. Calling this a hotel is a misnomer. I arrived, got my key, went upstairs and that was it. It felt more like staying at a friend’s house, informal and comfortable. Food & drinks. Impressive fun immersive experience eating here. A balance of tradition and creativity using an open wood fire and an antique but functional hearth. The chefs and staff forage every Wednesday for ingredients. The team includes Akira Ishinomaki, a licensed hunter and in charge of home made non alcoholic drinks. The two chefs both spoke English well, Yasushi lived in L.A. as a child and Shuhei-san has worked in San Sebastián and Brae in Australia Prices. $500 Rating. 5/5 Food: 5 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4
