I need to talk about the crab espresso. Yes. You read that right. An actual espresso. Made from crab. Served in a tiny carafe next to a baked crab dish. It sounded insane, but tasted pretty good. Rich, deep, concentrated ocean flavor in a shot glass. Nobody is doing this. The sirloin and pork chops came with a whole roasted garlic bulb and a jus. It was decent but nothing extraordinary. The mushroom ravioli of course was next level. One of the best pastas. They sent out a salmon tartlet with caviar and a cinnamon apple shooter on the house before the mains arrived which tasted amazing. And the banana flambe for dessert was textbook perfect. Now the space. 1864 is inside the Galle Face Hotel, one of the oldest hotels east of Suez. But forget the colonial grandeur for a second. The restaurant itself is a moody, brick walled lounge with plaid sofas, a stag in sunglasses on the wall, and a glass wine cellar glowing in the corner. It feels like a gentleman's club that doesn't take itself too seriously. Meal type: Dinner Price per person: Rs 10,000+ Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4

An Elegant and Memorable Valentine’s Evening We had the pleasure of experiencing the Valentine’s Day signature set menu, and it was truly exceptional. The menu was thoughtfully curated, with each course flowing beautifully into the next. The tuna carpaccio was fresh and well-balanced, while the Wagyu tenderloin was cooked to perfection with a beautiful sear and rich, flavorful jus. The seafood course was equally impressive, especially the creamy, well-finished risotto and perfectly cooked prawn. Dessert was artistic and balanced, a lovely way to conclude the evening. A special thank you to Mr. Gihan for his outstanding hospitality. His attentiveness, professionalism, and attention to detail ensured everything ran seamlessly. He took the time to explain the dishes and made us feel genuinely welcomed. An excellent dining experience — highly recommended.
