It is a sports center where you can also enjoy good food, the availability of the management makes the splendid location where every activity takes place surrounded by nature even more welcoming. We came to Acquasanta on our trip to Rome, having booked weeks ahead of time in hopes of experiencing flavorful, contemporary seafood in a fine dining setting. We were excited after seeing the positive reviews and beautiful pictures posted by the restaurant on Instagram. Unfortunately, we were sorely mistaken. What we were met with was an eerily empty restaurant (we were the only diners during the 1.5 hrs we were there) with ragged chairs peeling at the edges and fruit flies as plus ones to our dinner. We tried to remain cautiously optimistic: perhaps the food would still be good! The host appeared enthusiastic and welcoming. We ordered the €110 tasting menu. The amuse bouche was a nice touch but the bao felt heavy/greasy and the arancini was nothing special. The bread was tough and bland, with a tight, unyielding crumb. The breadsticks were interesting but the curry breadsticks tasted a bit stale/were losing their crunch. The crackers were okay. The squid ink flan looked unappetizing and tasted like a briny sponge, somewhat diluted by a sadly flavorless seafood broth. The spaghettone looked beautiful, but that’s about where the positives end. I like my pasta al dente just as much as the next guy, but this pasta was way undercooked. The sauce was flavorless but greasy, and gave the impression of eating straw coated in an oily slick. The only flavorful things on the plate were the tiny pieces of anchovy that were smaller than my pinky nail. The real disappointment, however, was the risotto. This risotto was a replacement for the baccalà, which was unavailable that night. The images of this dish on Acquasanta’s Instagram was beautiful, with a creamy looking risotto, vibrant tomatoes, and plump Langostine pieces. As a huge fan of risotto and Langostine, I was very excited. In reality, the risotto was almost raw, which was surprising as we waited almost 25 minutes between finishing the squid ink flan and receiving this dish (more on that later), and tasted plain. There was a half of a single Langostine and the tomatoes were mushy, cold additions to the plate. It felt like one of those “The guy she tells you not to worry about vs. You” memes. Huge disappointment. Indeed, the food was a letdown, but the dining experience was the true nail in the coffin. We spent the majority of our time at Acquasanta picking at our measly portions, waiting for our next course, and watching the host, who, although was kind, was constantly rubbing at his scalp aggressively while talking to the chef who appeared more interested in socializing than preparing our food in a timely manner. Their laughter and leisurely attitude echoed through the empty restaurant. The unsanitary behavior by our host and the collective lack of professionalism left a foul impression in our mouths. We made our reservations at 7:30 PM and by 9, had yet to receive the last three dishes of our menu. Once the spaghettone finally came out, still with two more dishes, our appetite spoiled, yet stomachs hungry, we informed our host that we had another appointment to get to and left. He did not charge us for the remaining two courses (We paid €80 for each of us) but we would’ve paid the full price of the menu if it meant we didn’t have to sit through the rest of the menu. Only respect for the hustle and love of gastronomy, but the stinginess in the food, tattered dining room, and disjointing timing with the dishes felt pompous and made us feel like we were being toyed with. As expected, an empty dining room is never a good sign, especially not in Rome. Meal type: Dinner Price per person: €80–90
