We recently experienced Sunday high tea at The Ahasa, located on the 29th floor of ITC Colombo, drawn in by its promise of refined dining paired with sweeping skyline views of Colombo. The setting itself delivers. Positioned high above the city, the ambience is elegant, calm, and visually impressive — exactly what one expects from a luxury high tea environment. The atmosphere creates the right foundation for a memorable experience. FOOD Ingredients — 10/10 The ingredients were undeniably fresh and of high quality, reflecting strong sourcing standards expected of a five-star establishment. Taste — 9/10 Execution was impressive, with refined French techniques evident across the selection. The overall flavour profile aligned well with international five-star resort standards — elegant, balanced, and thoughtfully composed. Availability — 2/10 This was a notable weakness. Only a single piece of Cornish pastry (prepared using a pastry sheet) was initially available, followed by a version made with puff pastry instead — an inconsistency in execution. Additionally, a basic condiment such as ketchup ran out completely, and it took approximately 15 minutes to receive a small portion upon request. Replenishment — 1/10 Replenishment fell significantly below expectations. At multiple points during the service, nearly half of the buffet (4 out of ~10 stations) remained empty for extended periods of around 10 minutes, recurring throughout the hour. This is not aligned with the standards of a five-star high tea experience. Buffet Service (Plates) — 1/10 There was a lack of serving plates at the buffet station, resulting in waiting times exceeding five minutes. For a high tea service, this level of oversight is unacceptable and disrupts the overall guest experience. SERVICE & OPERATIONS While the culinary foundation is strong, operational execution requires immediate attention. In luxury hospitality, consistency and anticipation are just as critical as quality. The repeated gaps in replenishment and basic service flow suggest lapses in floor coordination, mise-en-place discipline, and service supervision during the high tea period. OVERALL IMPRESSION The Ahasa has all the makings of an exceptional high tea destination — premium ingredients, refined culinary technique, and a stunning location. However, the operational shortcomings significantly detract from what should otherwise be a seamless five-star experience. With improved attention to replenishment cycles, service readiness, and consistency in execution, this venue has the potential to truly match its setting and culinary ambition. It was a good at Ahasa Sky Lounge at ITC Ratnadipa, the experience is simply breathtaking. The panoramic ocean and city views create a magical backdrop, especially at sunset. The vibe is vibrant yet relaxed, with great music, excellent service, and beautifully crafted food and drinks making it one of Colombo’s most memorable rooftop dining spots. I came here 3 nights in a row for sunset & drinks. Great spot inside the ITC Ratnadipa. It’s a glass tube in the sky connecting both of their buildings. The ambiance is hip & contemporary. They have live music as well. Between 5:30-7:30 they have a Bonvoy member event with free food & drinks, which brought me up the first time. The sunsets & service kept coming back.
