Japanese and French Fusion! So delicious and unique! *** Locals This is a perfect place to go to after work for the 5-7 PM happy hour! A lot of their food and drinks are discounted and they even have $1 dollar oysters during this time! *** Travelers There aren't many Japanese and French Fusion restaurants in NYC. It's tapas-style, so you can share everything with your group! *** My Recommendation Make a reservation ahead of time, and come for happy hour! The $1 oysters are amazing and they come with ponzu sauce. The food itself is great like the uni consommé and the burger, but maybe have your dessert elsewhere because it was pretty small even for one person and for the price. IG: @foodisseur

Went for the brunch on Sunday with my friends. There were only two tables of people when we stepped in at around 11:30am. We shared the famous sea urchin consumme glee. I like that they add cauliflower and make it really smooth and silky. But I think all the components should work better together. My friend has the lobster linguini. There is a generous amount of lobster and the pasta has a hint of spiciness. I had the uni and scrambled egg tartine. The uni and egg are all tasty but the bread is really bland. We also share the hojicha tea and the fig compote with rum ice cream. They are both great. The dessert is not too big or overly sweet. The fig has a nice wine flavor. The service was nice, but super slow. You even need to walk to them in order to ask for the check. Maybe I will come again for matcha pancake. After all, it's nice to find a brunch place with no line on Sunday noon. More food reviews, check out my Instagram: xuxinyi_nancy.

Autre Kyo Ya has been in the back of my mind since it opened, but I finally made it here, y'all! Lovely Japanese-French fusion, but contains just enough traditional Japanese elements to harken back to my experience at older sister Kyo Ya. We chose to order a la carte because I was set on getting the Anago & Mushroom Claypot Rice - Kyo Ya did Kamadaki rice extremely well so I had high expectations. In addition, we had the Sea Urchin Consomme, Yuzu Smoked Salmon, Foie Gras Croquette, Homemade Hummus & Carrot Confit, and the Monkfish Bouillabaisse - an order I thought was going to be too much for just my boyfriend and me but the portions here are small so it worked out. All of the small plates were tasty, but I would pass on the Foie Gras Croquettes, which were small and barely had any foie gras, which makes sense given the price but doesn't make sense in our meal given how filling fried potato can be. The Sea Urchin Consomme was delicious and all the delicate, buttery flavors peaked through, but it ended up being much heavier than anticipated; I wish they would reduce the portion and offer it the way croquettes are offered: a small bite per person. Homemade hummus wasn't well seasoned, but the carrot confit was great - nice and sweet, not too "carroty." Our favorite of the four was the Yuzu Smoked Salmon, which was presented in generous chunks with crispy skin on top instead of your typical thinly sliced fare. Pass on the Monkfish - I know this is notoriously hard to get right, and I physically could not swallow the meat. The soup was good and presentation was nice (poured over the dish at the table from a teapot) but they give you a couple spoonful of broth in a shallow dish - so very difficult to scoop up with a spoon. Also, there was a weird lump of mustard or wasabi in the dish that I couldn't figure out how to use. Finally - the kamadaki rice did not disappoint! It was super fragrant, the eel was very flavorful, and the rice perfectly cooked. The portion is pretty big, so we took the leftovers home (they package it up into little onigiri shapes) and it made for a nice treat the next day. I'd love to try the truffle kamadaki at some point, but can't justify the price. Not much to say about desserts - we got a molten chocolate cake with hojicha ice cream and the clementine with rum raisin ice cream. Hojicha ice cream was good, everything else was just fine. The cocktails were also great (the menu was concocted by Gn Chan), the service very attentive, and loved the designs of the plates they used.
