I have been here twice. I love the Macho salad, and the rotisserie chicken was delicious. The cornbread was amazing as well. I continually have cravings for this food, and the expensive price won't even keep me away.
Bandera is part of the Hillstone group restaurants that I always love (Houston's, Hillstone, etc...) and has that same cozy vibe. Every time I go, it's bustling with action- live jazz band, active bar scene, and usually a wait (though they take reservations on rezy.com now). My favorite way to start is always the spinach dip or the grilled artichokes when they're in season. Every entree I've had is great, but my favorite is any of their fish entrees. They're always perfectly cooked/grilled and seasoned. Their sandwiches and entrees are big enough to share as well... especially if you leave room for desert! Their take on the Oreo ice cream sandwich is amazing. I'm taking one star off for the long wait (usually about 45 minutes to an hour if no reservation, and they don't seat reservations right away either) and the loud ambience. I'm a fan of jazz music, but if you get seated close to the band, it can be hard to have conversation (jazz is nightly too I believe).
We made a reservation here for a dinner date on Saturday night and I'm so glad we tried this spot!! They had fantastic live jazz music playing, and a dark/cozy atmosphere. We sat in a booth along the back wall so we had a good view of the open kitchen, band, and the rest of the restaurant. Everything we had was SO GOOD! We had the skillet cornbread to start, then my husband had the cheeseburger and I had the Macho salad. The cheeseburger had their homemade coleslaw on it, which was excellent. My salad included cornbread croutons, avocado, tomatoes, and homemade rotisserie chicken. The chicken was tender perfection. We also shared a slightly sour grapefruit cocktail that our server recommended and the roasted cauliflower side. We were both stuffed by the end, so we found the portions to be generous, but we didn't have to walk back to our hotel with leftovers. We haven't tried it yet, but our server shared with us that their veggie burger was ranked top 10 best veggie burgers in the nation by Bon Appetit magazine. We will definitely be trying that next time!
