This feels a bit like the smaller or perhaps overlooked sibling to Bitton in Rose Bay, which remains exceptional. The service here was friendly but a little slow, and the café was very quiet for a Sunday morning. Coffee arrived quickly and was excellent as always, and the food was tasty. The menu seems more limited than Rose Bay’s. That’s not necessarily a drawback, but I do miss the classic French omelette — the version here is more of a baked style. If you’re nearby, it’s worth a visit, but if you’re equidistant between the two, Rose Bay has the better atmosphere and, I think, a slightly stronger kitchen. One area that could use attention is the bathrooms. They’re outdoors, a bit tired, and not very pleasant to use. Otherwise, Bitton Alexandria still delivers friendly hospitality and good coffee, just without quite the charm of its Rose Bay counterpart. They had a special on the oysters ($18 for half a dozen). I saw why when they arrived because they didn’t seem fresh, served warm/at room temperature and slightly yellow. I ordered a mango smoothie - on the menu it said it would have ice cream but it didn’t. We flagged the error but the servers attitude was dismissive and she admitted the menu had to be updated, but there was no offer to comp the drink. I wouldn’t complain if it was still nice but $9.50 for blended frozen mango, honey and ice doesn’t taste nice. Maybe you should try your own smoothies, and don’t call it that if there is no dairy. Maybe frappe is better? Even so I wouldn’t recommend it. Other menu items we had (escargot, croque madame) were ok but overall a subpar experience. Food: 3 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 5
