I stopped by Boru Toronto and was seriously impressed. The hamburger was absolutely delicious, and the kimchi hands down the best kimchi I’ve ever had. I wasn’t expecting it to steal the show, but it absolutely did. The atmosphere is also such a cool part of the experience. The space is unique, has a ton of character, and just feels different from your typical restaurant. Definitely a spot I’d recommend if you’re in Toronto. Great food, great vibe, and I’ll definitely be back. Price per person: $30–40 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Visited during their grand opening special in July which had a promotional price. Located in the King-Portland area, Boru is a Japanese-inspired restaurant that serves a unique style of hamburger (hamburgu) steak dish that is based off a similar concept in Tokyo using an open kitchen. The restaurant is best known for its hamburger steak and grilled steak dishes, which are all made fresh when ordered and served one at a time, so that when its served its directly from the grill. Their menu consists of a few basic dishes, which are their hamburgu steak and premium steak (either a striploin steak or a tajima wagyu steak) set meals. Each set meal comes with an onsen egg and dessert along with unlimited rice and miso beef broth. The hamburgu steak is served either as two or three patties, with each grilled hamburgu served one at a time and made continuously as ordered. As each hamburgu steak is served fresh, they are served in a staggered fashion so it's possible to finish one hamburgu patty and be waiting for the next serving (up to five minutes or more) as part of the set meal. As the rice and miso broth are unlimited, you can request staff at any time to obtain another serving and can also ask for it to be a half or full serving. Accompanying the dish are available sauces to mix and match to pair with the hamburgu steak, with the most common sauce being the ponzu sauce as well as other sauces such as a yuzu based sauce which gave it a citrus taste to the hamburgu steak. Other sides are available for order which are separate from the set meal, such as kimchi or add-ons like an additional onsen egg or steak. The included onsen egg is often added to the rice to add a creamy texture to it, or as a dipping sauce for the hamburgu steak. The dessert accompanying the set meal was matcha mochi, which was a nice addition. Service was friendly and was checking in often to see if I needed more rice or miso broth. The round table experience was interesting to see all the hamburgu and steak dishes being prepared and served in front, all made fresh once ordered. While the meal was overall decent and had a fair portion size, the full price ($32/$38) was a bit high given the items offered (even as a set meal) and when compared to other restaurants in the King-Portland area. Overall, it's an unique spot to try this style of having hamburgu steak which is normally a Japanese comfort food dish in an open kitchen environment. The restaurant has a great atmosphere and a welcoming ambiance, and the service was attentive and friendly. My friend ordered the burger with rice, and I tried the steak—it was absolutely delicious! They offer a variety of sauces and seasonings that you can use for dipping or mix into your rice, which adds even more flavor. The soup and rice come with free refills, which is a nice bonus. Overall, it was a wonderful dining experience. Highly recommend! Price per person: $30–40 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
