Appropriate name for an average buffet. China Buffet is a restaurant we visited at a sleepy plaza in south Rochester. The interior has unique redwood furnishing that shows its age since this location opened in 2018. There were over 65 items including some good hot dishes but the dessert, fruit & sushi sections left more to be desired. It was strange that chopsticks were nowhere to be found except at the cleaning table. Some corners were cut to keep prices down. For adult weekend dinner ($16.99), the seafood variety included crawfish, clams, mussels, salmon, and fried blue crab. The clams were popular with many diners while fish fillet tasted bland and the crab lacked texture. BBQ chicken, spareribs & salt pepper chicken were decently flavourful, and there were other typical dishes ranging from sesame chicken to fried dumplings. Stir fried noodles were also popular. Some dishes were dry with less turnover. Service was relatively prompt, although English didn’t seem to be fluent with another customer asking us what one dish was because they couldn’t understand the server. Many sections of the restaurant were empty for dinner time. Bill was dropped off at our table near the end of our meal, and payment was at the front. Skip it or hit it? Average affordable buffet if you’re nearby but there are similar options in town. Food: 3 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 3 Price per person: $10–20
