The buffet had a variety of options. You try the food and then go back and get more of what you liked. The best part is that you get to eat right away. Good food. Lots of shrimp in different dishes. Cooked and raw shrimp, several soups. Some sushi. Lots of desserts they are typical for Chinese buffets in the USA. Very friendly staff. Yeah, the Mexican music is weird. But it didn’t bother me because the food was so great. $12 for lunch week day, adults. Less for the kids. Hey fellow Googlers! China Star is far enough from the strip to be a locals spot and is in an area of Craig Rd surrounded by "big box" stores. Why is that an important thing? It means there's a larger turnover of customers and the food never just sits and boils to death. Food: They have a great selection of seafood if that's your thing. However, I was very surprised by the beef. It wasn't stringy or gristly. Just decent cuts. Same with the chicken! Good and fresh veggies rounded everything out. On a side note, I'd pass on the lomein. Allergies: If you have a shellfish allergy, the seafood is NOT separated from the other foods on their own buffet warmers. Shrimp, crab, crawfish, etc are intermingled between chicken or beef dishes. It means it's very easy that someone could switch tongs or splash allergens thus contaminating other normally safe foods. The spring rolls, egg rolls, Shu Mai, Rangoon, etc. are not marked for contents and only listed as "spring roll", "egg roll", Just be careful. Atmosphere: I wouldn't call this a destination restaurant, but it's not meant to be. I can appreciate that they concern themselves with food quality first. However, maybe replacing the MANY heavily stained ceiling tiles would be a good thing. After being in the food service game myself, it's one of the first things I see and made me wonder if I made a bad choice. The air is also a little heavy from the steam buffet warmers. They're cranked up to 11 and steam is pouring past the chaffing trays. When you walk in, you'll be taken by surprise. It's not sauna heavy; more like Florida in the spring heavy. The humidity was actually kinda comfortable but, it's also winter. I can't imagine what it's like in the summer. Decor is sparce. That's ok. You're not coming to The Chinese Theater in LA or a big corporate casino. It's just well placed and purposeful. I have zero complaints. Service: Everyone was super friendly. None of the grouchy owners who seem to wait to push you out for being there too long or eating too much were there. Their happiness and friendliness really added to the relaxed atmosphere. TLDR: Great little local spot that isn't super expensive, has good food, and scratches that Chinese Buffet itch. You won't be disappointed. Dietary restrictions: If you have a seafood allergy, be careful! Chicken is right next to the shellfish and seafood is intermingled between everything else. It is NOT well displayed and neither are ingredients. Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $10–20 Food: 4 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 3
