Ok, let me first start with the positive. The facility itself is beautiful and well maintained. Sorry, but that is all I can say positive. The wine is HORRIBLE. We love visiting wineries and tasting new wines. We travel all over to visit wineries and have been all over the Eastern coast-line visiting wineries and attending wine fairs or festivals. Normally, we find several wines that we love at each winey. I have never been to a winery and not found at least one that we really enjoyed. Well that was before going to Enoch. How disappointing to drive the distance to visit this winery. The wine actually had a smell of dog feces. I couldn't get past the smell so I kept dumping my glass into my husbands. He always drinks his wine. He feels that it is in bad taste to not drink the samples that are given. This is the first time that I have ever seen him pour out wine! It was undrinkable. We were hungry and inquired about the food. The wine hostess actually told us that we should not waste our time or money on the food. , Wow,that was a first! We are thankful that she warned us. When we explained how bad the wines were, she went into an explanation about the owner and wine-maker. We really didn't need to know all of that information. We were mostly inquiring if the wine always tasted this way. She said that sadly it was. Obviously, we left hungry and without even buying one bottle of wine. That was the first. We always buy the wine at the wineries. I suggest trying another of the great wineries in NC because they have some really good ones. We really like Gregory.
Went for a wine tasting and left with THE WORST headache. The wine is terrible. It's like acetone and juice. The person giving the wine tasting was clueless about every question we had. The place looked a wreck too. Vineyards were overgrown with weeds and grass growing through the cracks in the parking lot.
This is a fun place to stop in. The tasting is not the best. The woman who did ours knew nothing about the wines, which was a disappointment, since we paid for it. I'm personally not a fan of muscadine wines, so I didn't expect to fall in love with any of them, which I didn't, but I enjoy tasting the different variances of each one. People who talk about how bad the wine is in other Yelp reviews probably just don't like muscadine wine either. It's a funky tasting grape. The grapes are bad (IMO), not the product. The wine isn't BAD, per say, from Enoch--it's just made from muscadine grapes, so it tastes--muscadiney. The food is alright. I always enjoy the salad bar, and I've had a couple of good sandwiches. A few times during the week, I couldn't get what I wanted because they didn't have it--I don't think they do much biz during the week so they don't stock up?? A nice, quiet place in the area to get a decent meal. Beware of muscadine wine.
