Unfortunately despite how highly rated this place is, it was a mediocre eating experience. Staff were extremely kind and patient with us. They brought the food out and was attentive to what we needed. The rolls are delicious and soft. The meats were a disappointment though. We ordered original flavor on a 4 piece and half a pound of gizzards. Unfortunately we were not expecting the flavor to be so “clean”. The breading on the chicken was extremely bland but it is crunchy. I normally adore gizzard as it’s a dark meat and should thus have a strong burst of flavor except there IS no flavor so there was absolutely nothing for the gizzards to absorb except that boiled water taste. It’s so heartbreaking because I absolutely love chicken gizzards. I had to get it to-go in the end to try to save it with spices and seasonings back at home. Not perfect but I’m trying to not waste food. The regular pieces can do without too much flavor, but gizzards are not something to test on blandness. I should have done my research. A good gizzard place is a good gizzard place, but Ezell’s is definitely not such an establishment. If they’re unable to adapt to a nuanced type of meat like gizzards, that’s okay. Plenty of chicken places don’t serve it. Maybe they should remove the option off the menu as they seem to do very well with just the pieces and the tenders. I walked in... there was no line. I asked for 4 pieces of chicken... The cashier, Mr. Tabari, rang up my order immediately and served me my chicken instantly! Spectacular instantaneous sincere empathetic customer service... and my chicken was Hot and Fresh! Unbelievable!
