I was looking forward to dining at Feld as it struck me as a restaurant with a distinct point of view. However, it fell well short of the admittedly lofty expectations I had set for it. My favorite part of the experience was the staff- everyone was passionate, genuine, and welcoming. The food had some really good moments throughout. I really appreciated the attempt at showcasing the season’s bounty in all its forms, even if it meant an inordinate number of dishes starring tomatoes. And overall, the food was tasty. Where it fell short to me was in the quality of the ingredients and in how they were presented. If you’re going to feature a thick slice of an heirloom tomato at this price point, it better come close to being the best slice of tomato that I’m going to ever eat. Unfortunately, it didn’t come anywhere near. Same for the other fruit on offering- I’ve eaten better berries and melon bought from Whole Foods. That being said, the different preparations of corn were delightful. The plating was very hit or miss. And while I appreciated ending the meal by the backyard fire pit, I think the garden variety s’more offered was a missed opportunity to end with something more interesting. Overall, I liked Feld but didn’t love it. The price point is too steep for its current iteration. I think there is a lot of potential here but also a lot to sort through. An absolutely incredible tasting menu. Beautiful presentation, insanely creative dishes, and flavor explosion. I never thought about adding eggs and tempura to corn, I will be from now on. I thought an entire menu around corn and tomato at that price point was ridiculous but the experience made up for it. Truly unique. What made the night memorable and I’ll be coming back for, was how incredibly welcoming the entire crew was from the moment we approached the restaurant. The ambiance was warm and fun, and the other patrons were such a great mix of classy and genuinely fun. We ended the night chatting with people around us, which was such a perfect way to finish the evening. Five stars all around, maybe just fishing for more hearty/ meaty protein options.
