I was walking to the pizzeria down the block when the beautiful smells from Frato stopped me and caused me to enter. It was a Sunday night and I seemed to be their only customer. The food was fantastic! I ordered what was described as a cold tomato and clam soup, and was imagining a broth. It was so much better than that—sort of thick, warm compote of tomatoes and maybe some roasted red peppers with warm sliced clams and a bit of lemon juice. I’m so glad I ordered it. And for the main course I had the langoustine risotto—also excellent. The waitress spoke little English and I speak little Italian, but between us we managed to find the right white wine pairing that went with both dishes. For dessert I had the lemon and ginger granita, which was a perfect finish to the meal. I’m so glad I stopped—I was looking for a special meal and this was it!
