As I was walking around, I stumbled upon a charming little café. Curious, I decided to step inside, and to my delight, I found a wonderful coffee shop with a nostalgic Showa-era atmosphere. Their morning set was an incredibly reasonable 600 yen, and I suspect this might be the only café of its kind in the area. The shop is run by a kind elderly woman, managing everything on her own. It has been a coffee shop for 26 years, and though I didn’t ask for details, it seemed like she once ran it together with her husband. She warmly welcomes not only locals but also travelers passing through, making everyone feel at home. The toast, made from soft and chewy bread sourced from a nearby bakery called Chou Chou, was absolutely delicious. The breakfast also included a perfectly cooked sunny-side-up egg, a carefully arranged fresh salad, and a cup of hot coffee. Speaking of coffee—it was exceptional. Rich and full-bodied, it had a deep bitterness balanced by a chocolate-like sweetness, completely different from the sharp acidity found in many modern brews. The café had no background music, just a peaceful, quiet space where visitors could relax and enjoy their time. It felt like a hidden gem, perfect for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life. In an era where chain coffee shops like Starbucks and Doutor dominate the scene, cafés like this are becoming rare. However, I truly hope this place continues for as long as the owner is willing and able, as it holds a special charm that both locals and travelers can appreciate.
