How could I have not reviewed a place that has been so much a part of my history... Giamela's Submarine Sandwiches or as we call it just Giamelas, has long been a Burbank institution, well let me clarify it a bit more... A Burbank High school institution. Burbank has always been torn in two by the high school rivalry between the Burbank High Bulldogs and their cross town rivals the Burroughs's Indians. If you were a proud Bulldog you went to Giamelas, if you were from across town you went to Santoro's. In all my years coming to Giamelas, the place has remained simple and perfect, A handful of sandwiches to choose from, some random bags of chips and cans of sodas, that's it. The quality of their sandwiches are still as delectable as the first time I ever sunk my teeth into one of their huge sandwiches. My go to is usually the pepper steak, but I also love the Italian cold cuts as well as the Pastrami or meatball. I love how this classic place still can keep the quality so great after all these years and the prices have barely gone up in my 30 years of going here. If you want a taste of real Burbank, be sure to get your mouth around a large Pepper steak, extra everything, you'll thank me, Aloha
