Last year friends took me to Giulia and we sortis on line at 5 to get a seat at the bar. It was worth every bite. Last night exactly one year later I had scored a table for four. Our waitperson was superb, food came at the right pacing and she suggested a wine that was better and cheaper than the one I selected. Still thinking about the appetizer - wee semolina cakes with fava bean purée with white truffles on top. Friend has the octopus with lentils and peppers spiced with the perfect amount of heat. Pasta for my main was agnolotti with morels that will also have me dreaming about them for another year. Their bucatini is a standard but all the pastas are yummy. We had one of our party who needed a very spartan sauce and they accommodated him exquisitely. The finish was the pistachio ice cream nestled in a dark cherry sauce with a tone of fennel. Not too much sauce to overwhelm the luxury of the cream. I give them a five pistachio rating. In my top five restaurants ever!!!
I have been here twice, both times sitting at the bar, because it is very difficult to get a reservation. But if you arrive right when Giulia opens, then usually you can get a seat at the bar. We were told that the bucatini all'amatriciana and pappardelle with wild boar are constant menu items, but the rest of the dishes change more often. On our first visit, we had the warm semolina cakes (which are amazing) and also the pappardelle. This past visit, we had the local black bass crudo, which is fresh yet complex, although the dill was a little overwhelming. We then shared the lobster and burrata tortelli, which was not too heavy and perfectly accented with the black truffles. We finished with the parsnip and ricotta agnolotti, which was supposed to be very light and summery, but it was heavier than expected. The morel mushrooms were my favorite part. This was probably my least favorite dish, but it was still tasty and my friend liked it. We also shared the spaghetti con alici, and the white anchovy gave the dish a depth and complexity that I had been craving. Outstanding dish. Overall, I think this is one of the best, if not THE best, Italian restaurants in the Boston area. It is also reasonably priced. Highly recommended!
Incredible meal - hard to get a reservation but even if you have to eat at 9 pm....worth it. The four pastas we tried were exceptional, some of the best we've ever had. Can't wait to return!
