I really wanted to like Gusto Peru. The place wasn’t busy at all when we arrived—at least 10 open tables inside and another 10 outside—so I thought we’d be able to settle in and enjoy a big meal. Unfortunately, the experience started off on the wrong foot. As soon as we walked in, we were asked how many people were in our party. I said two, and they directed us to a small two-person table, which I totally understand by default. However, I politely requested a larger table, explaining that we planned to order more food—at least four dishes and drinks, as we were really hungry. They immediately declined, saying the larger tables were only for parties of more than two. Again, I get the general policy—but the place was nearly empty. Trying to reason, I said we’d order six dishes if needed, hoping that would help us get more space to eat comfortably. Still, they refused—no explanation, no flexibility, no sign that the other tables were reserved. It wasn’t about trying to take advantage of space, it was about wanting to enjoy the experience and spend more. But the response felt dismissive and inflexible. Honestly, that attitude was what turned me off. I would have gladly paid more, but when a restaurant values rigid policies over customer experience—especially when the place is clearly not at capacity—it leaves a bad taste. We’re very sorry about your experience. Even enough the restaurant wasn’t full, our team member didn’t feel comfortable assigning a large table without the manager present.
