The Best Bagels on Route 16 – Soft, Chewy, and Full of Fussa History! If you are exploring the "Base Side Street" along Yokota Air Base, Hoop is a mandatory stop. It has that classic 1950s Americana vibe that defines Fussa, but with a refined Japanese touch to their baking. The "Soft" Secret: Unlike traditional New York bagels that can be quite tough, Hoop specializes in a softer, chewier style that is incredibly easy to eat. My absolute favorite is the Smoked Salmon Sandwich - the cream cheese and salmon pairing is perfect but it’s the freshness of the bagel that steals the show. Seamless Tech & Service: The ordering process here is incredibly smooth. Once you sit down, you're given a QR code to scan with your phone. You browse the full menu and order digitally from your table! The staff brings the food directly to you and when you're finished, you simply take the provided receipt to the front. You can pay at the cashier or use their self-pay register for a quick exit. Take-Home Treats: For those who want to stock up, they have individually wrapped bagels ready to go. They freeze beautifully, so you can bring a taste of Fussa back to your own kitchen. Don't Miss the Rainbow Bagel: You have to see their Rainbow Bagel to believe it. It’s a vibrant, multi-colored swirl that looks like a work of art. Despite the wild colors, it has a pleasant, classic plain bagel flavor, making it the perfect base for a sweet spread or just a great photo op! More Than Just Bagels: If you aren't in a bagel mood, their lunch menu is surprisingly deep. They serve excellent Pasta and Curry dishes that make it a great spot for a full sit-down lunch in their trendy, loft-style seating area. Cool Fussa Facts for Your Visit: The Fussa Dog: Hoop is one of the few places where you can get an official "Fussa Dog." To be "official," the sausage must be 16cm long (for Route 16) and 23mm wide (a pun on "Fu-sa" / 2-3). The hot dog also has to be sourced from one of the two local Fussa ham factories! Americana History: The restaurant is located right next to the Fussa American House, a preserved 1958 military home. You can actually see the house from Hoop’s parking lot! Pro-Tip: If you have kids, head to the second floor - they have a massive play area that is a lifesaver for parents! Meal type: Lunch Price per person: ¥1,000–2,000 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
