Aurora is a Magical Cave-Like Escape with Phenomenal Wild Game. From the street, the ivy-covered exterior is incredibly eye-catching and looks like a secret garden in the middle of Fussa. Stepping inside, the interior design feels like a magical cozy cave dwelling creating an intimate atmosphere. With only a handful of tables (I counted two 2-seaters, two 4-seaters, and one 6-seater), the whole vibe feels private and exclusive. The "Jibie" (wild game) philosophy here is what makes this place unique. Wild game that would otherwise be considered a nuisance is turned into a nutritious "gift from the forest". The restaurant views wild game not as pests, but as a resource that helps the body from the inside out. The menu explains that by preparing these meats as Hamburg steaks, they can ensure the meat is cooked thoroughly and safely while locking in all the natural umami and nutrients. The Food: The "Half and Half" Hamburg (available for lunch or dinner): A great option for those that can't decide or want to try more than one type of meat! The menu allows you to choose two different types. I had the venison and grizzly bear (plus a side of sausage from Fussa Ham company because Fussa has two ham companies and it's worth trying when you see them). Their menu highlights an interesting note that wild game is higher in protein and lower in fat than beef or pork. The venison was incredibly lean and rich in iron, which the restaurant notes is excellent for helping with fatigue. The bear had a savory deep umami flavor that was surprisingly light on the stomach. Grizzly Bear Ragu Rigatoni (Lunch): This isn't your typical ragu. It is a savory flavor punch where the bear meat is stewed to extract deep umami until it’s incredibly tender and packed with richness. Their approach is to let the natural flavor and texture of the animal be the star, rather than burying it in a heavy tomato or wine based sauce. The texture remains chunky and savory because the meat is the focus rather than the thick sauce. Sides: The chicken karaage was perfectly juicy, and the lunch and dinner combos are a steal because you get a salad and a drink. Drinks: The homemade ginger ale with the ragu was an unexpected but perfect pairing - it cuts right through the richness of the meat. For dinner, the Rooibos tea was a great, clean complement to the meal. Overall, Aurora is quite the hidden gem in the town of Fussa. Come here if you're looking for a thoughtful and delicious meal combined with a unique experience! Price per person: ¥2,000–3,000 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
