This was on a quit street corner away from the busy crowds. The food was very unique and had a different twist than most vegetarian restaurants. They were also very accommodating with our 8 month old. We enjoyed our experience at Il Margutta. The service and ambience truly set this restaurant apart. So too did the focus on a diverse vegetarian menu and fresh garden vegetables. Upon entry, we were greeted warmly and served by up to three different staff who made sure our every need was looked after throughout our dinner. The restaurant includes high back booths and full, bright open windows that both create a warm, vibrant feel to the restaurant. The walls are decorated with unique artwork that brings a trendy yet classic feel. Classic jazz tunes play audibly throughout the restaurant, giving the whole place a modern but bright speakeasy vibe while also presenting as a classy fine dining experience. The menu choices are carefully curated to celebrate Italian food while highlighting whole food and vegetable-rich flavours, rather than relying on processed alternatives to meat. We loved sharing the wild mixed salad to start. It was a blend of fruit and vegetables and full of great flavours. We also enjoyed the ricotta stuffed zucchini flowers that were also rich with flavours or cheese and tomato. It is worth noting, we also received a delicious, diverse bread basket and a complementary amuse-bouche appetizer of gazpacho. After that, our next dishes were thoughtfully created and well-presented. However, they fell a little flat in terms of flavours. We found ourselves looking for a bit more herby pop from basil or an extra smooth boost from some quality olive oil. One exception, was the fried eggplant and vegetables that was rich with flavours and still left room for the brightness of fresh vegetables to come through. Great experience certainly recommended for vegetarians looking for diverse menu choices and almost there in terms of taste.
