Lab 13 Handroll Bar feels built around a single idea: serving hand rolls at the exact moment they're meant to be eaten. The restaurant is small, intimate, and centered entirely around counter seating, creating an experience where guests sit directly across from the chefs as each roll is prepared and handed over one by one. There is a minimalist quality to the space that keeps the focus on the food, while the compact layout gives it an atmosphere that feels more like a traditional sushi bar than a typical Boston restaurant. The result is a dining experience that feels personal, interactive, and surprisingly immersive despite its simplicity. The hand rolls are naturally the main attraction, with an emphasis on fresh fish, balanced rice, and crisp nori served immediately after assembly. Hamachi, bluefin toro, spicy yellowtail, snow crab, bay scallop, and eel are among the offerings, each highlighting the quality of the seafood without relying on excessive sauces or toppings. The bluefin toro roll is especially memorable for its rich texture, while the hamachi showcases the clean flavors that define much of the menu. For those looking beyond the traditional selections, specialty rolls and premium additions such as A5 wagyu provide a more indulgent side of the experience. The set menus are particularly appealing, offering a chance to sample a range of rolls while showcasing the variety of fish and textures that make hand-roll-focused dining so enjoyable. We got it for take-out, where you can also build your own, while also providing a decent amount of meat. However, not all of the meat were good. We didn't enjoy the scallops, which lacked flavor and felt rubbery. The salmon also stood out as not being unique, just being chunks of salmon sashimi. What makes Lab 13 stand out is how focused it remains on doing one thing exceptionally well. Rather than offering an expansive sushi menu, the restaurant embraces the hand roll format and builds the entire experience around freshness, timing, and simplicity. My server Riyadh was wonderful, A+ service, the fish was delicious, mild and just the perfect amount of food -- I got the 4-set of handrolls for a lighter lunch. The experience was super unique and authentic and just an absolute pleasure ‍. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Meal type: Lunch Price per person: $20–30

The perfect place to get super fresh, made to order hand rolls in this neck of the woods. Compared to NYC spot KazuNori the rice is not as perfectly warm or fresh but the fish is def high quality. Service was speedy which made it easy to do a quick lunch between calls (iykyk) and the waitress was super nice, friendly, and helpful. Absolutely our first go to now when we have a sushi craving. Actually didn’t want to review as I selfishly don’t want to have to wait for a table but I also need it to stick around forever so give it some business! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Meal type: Lunch Price per person: $30–40 Recommendation for vegetarians: Would not recommend Vegetarian options: Seafood heavy menu. Don’t come unless you eat seafood. Parking space: Plenty of parking Parking options: Free of charge parking lot Kid-friendliness: Kid must be old enough to sit on a bar stool without back support. I think 6+ should be good unless your kid isn’t well behaved.
