Decided to take a drive and check out Layla's Lebanese Restaurant. We arrived just after 3 to find the place dark. A moment of panic was remedied by a quick phone call and a recorded message said they were closed until 4. Nothing on their website or on Yelp about the modified hours. When I went in to pick up our order, I did notice a handwritten sign on the door with the new hours. No harm, no foul. It gave us a chance to drive through the Town of Occoquan and kill some time before Layla's re-opened at 4p. We placed a takeout order and both decided to have the mixed grill; all in all a great choice. It came with lamb, chicken, & kafta; served with rice, grilled vegetables, and Garlic Whip. The lamb was cooked a little more than medium well and was my least favorite of the three meats. The chicken and kafta were cooked perfectly and tasted great! Loved the rice and the Garlic Whip was to die for. We also ordered the ASHTA B'MOZ; Layla's version of bananas and cream. House-made cream, fresh banana, honey, and pistachio. It was good but not something I'd go for again. A large helping of honey made the desert more palatable as the cream was very thick and almost pasty in texture. Extra points for the honey! We'll definitely go back when we can enjoy a meal inside. The ambiance of the parking lot was a 0 out of 10. ;) Thankfully I had good company to enjoy lunch with.
