It was a bit confusing getting initially acquainted to how the restaurant "works" with selecting your own soup ingredients, but once we got up to speed, my husband and I became instant regulars. Mala Magic is awesome! You choose your own vegetables, noodles, and proteins, and then your broth (from 6 choices, including gluten-free/soy-free option) and they make you a fresh bowl of your own custom soup. Portions are generous and the selection of ingredients is excellent. They pare down the offerings outside of the academic year, so summer season has less to choose from, but if you go during UofR semesters, they have EVERYTHING you would want in your soup. A gem in college town and a place I hope to be able to go for a quick family meal for a long time! Food: 5 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 5

The ingredients seemed fresh and the selection was good. Unfortunately, the tomato broth was too sweet for me and tasted like straight ketchup. My experience with the service was also disappointing. The young lady who helped me was unfriendly and had a poor attitude when taking my order. She seemed miserable working here. I will not be recommending this place to others. Delicious food! Highly recommend. We got the mala spiced broth with assorted add ons and got soup dumplings. Both were dishes were great.
