A MICHELIN star: cuisine of great finesse. Worth the step!

A red-brick former warehouse on the edge of the city plays host to this surprisingly sophisticated restaurant. You start downstairs with drinks and amuse bouches, before heading up the narrow spiral staircase for dinner, where Max has designed everything from scratch, from the furniture to the crockery... I have eaten at a few different Michelin Star restaurants on various trips away but I have to say this was probably the best yet. Each course was amazing and had a story, I opted for the Sommelier’s choice wine pairing which was pricey but hey holiday money is Monopoly money right? And it was so worth it! The wines were very well paired with the meal to complement the flavours. What really made the experience for me though was the little touches, the story of each dish was explained by a member of the Kitchen team, several were even explained by Max Ceckot himself. After the last dish before the petit fours I taken on a tour of the restaurant, the amazing wine cellar. I was shown the vast array of ingredients and the preserves and oils they make in house. Something that also stuck out for me, when I travel solo and eat on my own I often find I don’t know where to look, I don’t want other tables to feel like I’m staring but I also don’t like to be on my phone the whole time, whether it was intentional or not I was seated where the open plan kitchen and the wine station was in my direct sight and not other tables this was a great touch for me. Overall a great experience if you’re in Riga for something special or just looking to treat yourself then this is a must! I am overwhelmed with this restaurant. Our local is The fat Duck in bray with the occasional trip to the Ritz which is exceptional. However, the Max Cekot Kitchen is quite amazing and unique. Their razor focus on local produce and culinary excellence is incredible. They are an absolute credit to Riga and Latvia and are worth a short flight to experience their excellence. The food, faultless, the staff, faultless, the ambience amazing. This is unquestionably one of the best meals we have had. It is made all the more incredible by being able to question Max personally on his creations. The sommelier was delightful and so knowledgeable. The staff were all tremendous, Yeva did a great job of taking us around and explaining the wine cellar and kitchen. If you’re in Riga , or just need a great meal this is the place. Highly Recommended xxxx. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Price per person: €50+
