Jefferson School African American Heritage Center is a great attraction for tourists who come to eat at this restaurant after long walks. Maya serves nicely cooked fried oysters, rainbow trout and crab cakes. If hungry, come here for good key lime pie, peanut butter pie and ice cream.

We were seated promptly, and the server was wonderful. She was knowledgeable, fast, and warm. The food was just the right amount, and delicious. We visited Maya as a group of 11 ladies. We understood that our party was large and that it might take a little more time than usual, but our service was extremely slow. Our server took 17 minutes to even greet our table, and when she did, she proclaimed “I’m tired,” and continued to do so throughout the dinner. She told my friend that “you can take this pen and paper and do it yourself because I’m tired.” The food was good, but not everything was exactly as ordered, and she didn’t even ask if we had everything we needed. Overall, it was a 2.5 hour experience that should have taken MUCH less time. We were so excited to come to Maya because of the amazing reviews, but we were very disappointed. I never leave reviews on things but I was inclined to do so for this because it was such a bad experience for an occasion that we cared a lot about. Sorry not sorry, Maya - you failed us.
