If you are looking for the absolute definition of a true Buffalo neighborhood tavern, look no further than **McCormick’s Pub** on Van Rensselaer Street. Tucked perfectly into the Old First Ward and Larkinville area, this spot captures that classic, old-school Buffalo charm from the second you walk through the door. What truly sets McCormick's apart is the team behind the bar. The staff here is phenomenally friendly, welcoming every single person like an old friend—which makes sense, given that the ownership and crew carry the legendary, tight-knit hospitality DNA of the old Swannie House. They keep the beers ice-cold, the incredible wings flying out of the kitchen (you have to try the Murph’s style), and the atmosphere entirely effortless. It is the ultimate haven for down-to-earth people who just want a great place to sit, relax, and talk. On any given night, you’ll find yourself in a casual conversation with regulars and newcomers alike. It’s the kind of spot where the stools are filled with local sports fans dissecting the Bills' latest roster moves or discussing the Sabres' playoff pushes. If you want to grab a pint and find some good company to chat about classic music, local history, or neighborhood happenings, this is your place. It is a genuine community hub with hearty laughs, incredible local vibes, and zero pretension. For a closer look at the tavern's atmosphere, you can watch a Local News Segment on McCormick's Pub, which details how a veteran local bartender opened the pub to preserve a dedicated gathering space for neighborhood regulars. My first time here. We were warmly greeted by Jeff behind the bar when we first walked in. The atmosphere was great! We were recommended the quesadillas for taco Tuesday and the Murph style wings. Both were a 10/10 and super affordable. This will not be the last time I’m at Mccormicks and they are immediately in my top 5 wing spots in Buffalo.
