Service date 09/172026. Time 7:30pm. After more than 20 years of being a loyal Mellow Mushroom customer, I never imagined that one visit could leave me feeling this disappointed and disrespected. Unfortunately, tonight’s experience at the downtown Decatur location was one of the worst I’ve ever had at Mellow Mushroom. My girlfriend and I went to Mellow Mushroom in downtown Decatur for a date night and to enjoy one of our favorite pizzas. We normally visit the LaVista Road location, but since we were walking around downtown Decatur, we decided to stop here instead. The restaurant was understandably busy, and our server seemed preoccupied, but we were patient and understanding. My girlfriend’s pizza arrived first, and mine came a few minutes later. When my pizza arrived, I noticed it wasn’t the size I had ordered. I had ordered a small, but the server explained that they had made a mistake and upgraded me to a medium. I wasn’t upset about that at all. In fact, I was thinking I could take the extra pizza home and have some for lunch the next day, and I didn’t mind paying the difference for the upgrade. Then something completely unexpected happened. As I pulled the pizza tray toward me and reached to take a slice, a woman came from behind me, abruptly grabbed the tray out of my hands, and put a smaller pizza directly in front of me. She then walked away without saying excuse me, explaining what had happened, or offering any apology. My girlfriend and I were completely shocked. I honestly don’t know how to describe how uncomfortable and disrespected that moment made me feel. Regardless of whether there was a mistake with the pizza, there was absolutely no reason to handle the situation that way. A simple explanation would have completely avoided the issue. To her credit, the manager noticed what happened, came over, apologized repeatedly, and offered to take care of our meal. I genuinely appreciated her response and the professionalism of the other server, who was polite and respectful throughout the evening. That’s what makes this experience especially disappointing. After being a Mellow Mushroom customer for more than 20 years, I never expected to be treated this way by an employee. One person’s unnecessary and disrespectful behavior can leave a lasting impression and potentially damage the reputation of an otherwise good business. I hope management addresses what happened so that other customers don’t have a similar experience. I’m grateful for the manager who stepped in and handled the situation appropriately, as well as the other server who remained polite and respectful. I simply hope the employee involved understands that this is not an acceptable way to treat customers—especially loyal customers who have supported the brand for decades. I submitted a pick up order and got the text at 8:10pm that it was ready for pick up. We go inside and they say it’ll be another 5 minutes. We go back in 10 minutes later and they say it’ll still be a wait, they’re remaking our cheesy bread. We went back in 10 minutes and it still wasn’t done. We didn’t get our order until 8:40pm. I just don’t understand why they would say the order is ready and then we have to wait another 30 minutes at the restaurant for a pick up order. DISGUSTING EXPERIENCE. We ordered take-out at Mellow Mushroom Decatur 7/22/2026. Two of our three pizzas had hairs in them, and one had a solid chunk of hair. We raised our concerns to customer service with no response. We were loyal Mellow Mushroom Customers, so much so that we had them cater our wedding after-party. This is by far the worst pizza experience I have ever had and it is made worse by the fact that no one from customer service has addressed our concerns. There are plenty of other pizza places.
