What an absolute gem of a place - right from the get go - super attentive friendly staff, great atmosphere, fabulous cocktails, and the food is just sublime. We'd been wanting to try the place for a while and finally got around to it. We were not disappointed. Everything we ate, the homemade dumplings, stripped vegetable noodle salad, steamed rice, smacked cucumber and sesame chicken salad were just amazing. We also got to meet the wonderful Lilli who owns the restaurant, she was so welcoming and friendly. And the chap that served us couldn't have been more attentive and friendly. So much so we tipped extra on top of the service charge. Wow, just wow. Thank you for making our night fab. Toni and Dominic. TL;DR: Poor value for money and a strange serving experience, although one member of staff was excellent. Visiting Paper Tiger was a mixed experience. The male server who looked after us (unfortunately I didn’t catch his name) was excellent, really friendly, accommodating and extremely knowledgeable about the food. He gave great explanations of the dishes and was genuinely helpful when we were deciding what to order. The main issue was the way the food was served. We weren’t told when ordering that dishes would simply come out whenever they were ready. Our rice, which we’d ordered specifically to eat alongside the mains, arrived around 10 minutes after them. By that point we were too hungry to wait, so we ended up eating the mains without it and then essentially having the rice on its own. For a restaurant serving dishes designed to be eaten together, this felt poorly thought out rather than intentional. When we mentioned this to the waitress, she insisted that we had been told this was how the restaurant worked, we hadn’t, and her attitude came across as quite dismissive. In contrast, the male server was very understanding and apologised, which we really appreciated. He is honestly the main reason I’m not rating the experience lower. The value for money was also disappointing. £10 for seven tiny pieces of chicken is difficult to justify, even by London standards. Overall, there were some positives, particularly the excellent service from the gentleman who looked after us, but the combination of the disjointed serving style, the response when we raised it and the portion sizes made the experience feel poor value for money.
