I've passed by a few times and finaly took the opportunity to see what it's all about at Poolehall Cafe. Displaying a Food Standards Agency - Food Hygiene Rating of 5, I was personally left feeling extremely uncomfortable with the hygiene of the Kitchen Staff and outdoor undercover Dining Area. Just before lunchtime on a Monday I must have arrived straight after 'the morning rush'... (There was actually less than half a dozen customers) because there were dirty tables that hadn't been wiped with food debris on them, empty mugs and what I think was tomato ketchup smeared all over a menu on another table none of which were cleaned up while I was there. I appreciate it may have been a little hot in the kitchen, but I don't think a 'Tank Top Vest' quite sets the right hygiene appearance from the lad serving behind the counter. Not to mention his cold and with no facecovering. Perhaps some clean 'branded' T-shits and Catering Headwear as per EC Regulation 852/2004 - Food Safety Regulations wouldn't go a miss. The food was ok and definitely nothing special. I was fine with that, but again whilst looking for a salt cellar that wasn't empty, I came across three absolutely dirty ones. Hasn't anyone told the staff that feeding bread to wild Ducks and Geese is bad for them. The Foul that is, not the staff. I can't think for one reason why I will be rushing back to Poolehall Cafe anytime soon unless they clean up their act.
