Alright my wife is Canadian so you know I like my poutine - and for an option here in the US, Poutine Brothers SMACKS! The food truck came and visited my work, and while all poutineries should be judged on a classic serving, this was my lunch so I ordered the fried chicken on top, which was the perfect amount of protein, nice and crispy. The cheese curds came from Wisconsin, which is about as close as to Quebec as you can get in the US. The fries were crispy and the gravy was yummy. Poutine Brothers crushes it! It's a food truck, so the atmosphere you would expect: grab food and take it for a walk or a bench nearby.

I can only conclude that I went on an off night. I went to a concert at YouTube Theater this past week and the poutine options were sounding great from Poutine Brothers. The line was long but the prospect of gooey goodness was worth it. After placing my $29 order for a bottle of water and the beef brisket poutine, it didn't look amazing but looks can be deceiving. Sadly, the looks represented properly the dish. I don't know what was going on, but every element was terrible. The beef brisket was dry, the gravy didn't have flavor and was so thin that the minimal portion all seeped to the bottom of the dish. Literally 5 cheese curds in the poutine and they were not gooey. None of the dish was. It was all so dry and had no flavor. The fries weren't good either, not crispy at all and I'm thinking what the heck!? If you're going to have a poutine focused truck, how is the gravy watery and not delicious?! How are the fries not bomb!? What am I missing here?! Did I just go on an off day!?

Eh, it's the best you'll get in LA but this is NOT poutine by a long shot. As a Canadian I would NEVER take my family or friends here unless I wanted to be made fun of for a long time. Ordered delivery about a year ago and then had a couple of bites of my friends delivery about a week ago- still the same squishy boring blah "gravy fries" people wanna call poutine. In fact- here are some things you SHOULD ask yourself when reviewing poutine instead of pretending something you've never tried is good enough to rate 5 stars: Are the fries fried in duck fat to preserve crispness? Are the curds of cheese SQUEAKY cheese?! Is the gravy THICK and not just corn starch? REAL poutine gravy is NOT made with a roux. High end places will use beef and DUCK stock, trucks will use beef and chicken. This is how I grade my poutine- if it doesn't match any of these it's just topped fries.
