Absolutely negative experience related to Sunday brunch. Let me start by saying that we went to Queen Makeda based on the memory of the restaurant located in Via di San Saba, of which I had excellent memories, both in terms of location and quality and vast choice of food. Instead, the surprise was bitter. Meanwhile, the location is located in an anonymous side street of Via Ostiense, not seen Gasometro, but which overlooks a street full of cars and cars looking for parking. Even though we had booked the day before, they reserved the worst place for us, that is, a small table right next to the dessert counter, where hordes of parents with children continually passed and stood, literally glued to our table and talking while glued to our plates. The room is small and narrow, poorly distributed, very noisy and dim. But the real sore point was the food. Very narrow choice, consisting essentially of eggs, in all sauces, bacon and sausages. Practically nothing substantial and hot to eat: cold cuts, a single cheese, omelette with potatoes, wok vegetables, cabbage, pieces of pizza with onion, bean curd and roast beef. A situation that has absolutely nothing to do with the old restaurant in San Saba where there were lavish dishes, a wide range of foods and continuous replenishment. They made us choose, included in the brunch menu, a dish of the day, the only dish that was a little more substantial and warm, which, however, arrived after almost an hour and a half... Practically, in the meantime we had filled ourselves with these useless appetizers, because they cannot be defined otherwise, which I would never have eaten if not forced by the condition and the absolute lack of choice on the brunch menu. The waitress, who in any case has no responsibility and who was actually very busy, who we asked at least 4 times about the waiting times for this only existing hot dish ordered as soon as we arrived, told us that the place was full and, practically speaking, we had to wait. There is evidence of an inefficient general organisation... the course arrived at 2.10pm, I even left it because I no longer had an appetite! The desserts are nothing special. All this for 25 euros per person, i.e. the same price as the old Queen Makeda...now I ask myself: in conscience, once you have changed location, aware of having gone from riches to rags in all respects, with what courage should you even leave the same price for four appetizers as an aperitif rather than a brunch? Honestly, since we reopened here at the gasometer and re-proposed the brunch we have always received compliments and positive reviews even from those who were our customers in via di San Saba. I don't know how to answer about the location and the position of the table except that we are in front of the gasometer and that if the table wasn't to her liking she could have asked to change it and we would certainly have satisfied her. On food, however, I have to argue, that we have more than 15 savory items on the buffet, 7 main dishes to choose from, eggs made in various ways and 10 sweet items. All dishes are prepared on the day of the brunch with quality and varied ingredients according to the standards required for a buffet. Regarding times and confusion, unfortunately this can happen when the place is full and fortunately we are full every Sunday. Compared to your completely personal disappointment in having compared the restaurant in Via San Saba to this one, but for the majority of our customers the new Queen Makeda is only an evolution and an adaptation to the current times of the previous one.
