It's not just for special occasions anymore I just got home form an exquisite meal at Rooney's Restaurant.It's kind of a hidden gem, a diamond in the rough. My wife and I where seated immediately upon arrival. Walter the host was very congenial, and brought us directly to our table. When we noticed there was foie gras on the app. selection and with out hesitation ordered 2 and 2 glasses of sauterne to go with, before even looking at the rest of the menu. It came with sauteed apple slices and house-made brioche, which was a treat in it self. For $16 it was a steal. I then saw frogs leg's and knowing i couldn't eat a full portion decided to split them as an 1/2 app. instead. unfortunately they had already been sold out ( a hot seller I guess). So decided to get 2 Belgian endive salads. A beautiful presentation of 3 endive boats fill each with craizins. 1 with Gorgonzola and 1 with walnuts. the combo of sweat cranberries, blue cheese, the semi-bitter endive and the nutty and crunchy walnuts was a marriage made in heaven. Next was the entrees, no disappointments here. My wife ordered the rabbit in mustard sauce, which I had to taste because I wanted it too. It was good size legs and loin, very tender and moist, hard to find at a restaurant these days. I had the sweetbreads, one of my all time favorites, they were the best I've had in a very long time. Melt in your mouth delicate, but most of all they actually tasted like veal, which is very rare. Both entrees came with a spinach custard and hand crafted fettuccine, which was slightly over done. We ended up splitting an very delicate Gran Marnier souffle glaice which is a frozen orange flavored cream. Everything was superb, Service from Lubo and Rob were 1st class, very attentive, and even poured the wine when needed,( a lost art in restaurants these days). Joe the Moroccan proprietor came by the table to offer wine and food selections. Rooney's a job well done and appreciated. Not just for special occasions any more, but just for good times and great food at very reasonable prices. Show less
