Somewhat charming neighborhood Italian resto specializing in Northern Italian cuisine. Nice wine list, decent food including some vegan options, and the service was unobtrusively attentive. The only disappointments eere the overly loud and aggressive music. It seemed like management had decided to create a “party atmosphere” and overreached. Unfortunately this is a pervasive trend in most restaurants that can instantly sour what would have been an otherwise pleasant experience. The food was not bad but all three of the dishes we had were somewhat excessively oily. For years, this had been a reliable neighborhood spot for my fiancé and me, serving tasty Italian food and always being easy to get into, even on busy evenings. The last time we were here with our friend, the food went downhill. We had the escarole salad and the branzino crudo, both of which were good. But our entrées were all a miss. My fiancé and our friend got the NY Strip and had ordered it medium-rare. Both strips came out well-done, and the dishes looked rather like airplane food or hotel conference food. Our friend ate because she was so hungry, but my fiancé asked if he could get his plate comped, which our server did, no questions asked. I had ordered the seared scallops, except when I got them, they were missing the sear: they had the faintest brown on them, and they were room-temperature. And the chilled blood orange broth and pomegranate ate watery, so the whole dish was rather unsavory. Consistency is one of the most important parts of operating a restaurant, and with such a slide in quality from what we were used to at Rucola, we won’t be going back.
