Got to Sam Jones BBQ right when they opened and had a great experience. I went with the spare ribs and chopped pork, and both were excellent. The ribs especially were awesome. I had already eaten about a pound of spare ribs, and the two-meat platter was still more than enough food for one person. The cornbread was really interesting and very good. It was much denser than the style I’m used to, almost like freshly ground corn that had been grilled. Definitely different, but I enjoyed it. The baked beans were okay, probably the weakest part of the meal, but still fine. They also had a good beer selection. There are two BBQ sauces on the table, one more vinegar-forward than the other, and both were very good. Service was great and everything came out very quickly. You order at the counter, grab a seat, and they bring the food out to you. They have a nice outdoor area as well, although I sat inside. Best BBQ I’ve had in Raleigh so far. I’d absolutely go back, especially for those ribs.
