We visited Sushi R91 in Riverside today and were extremely disappointed with our experience. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt unwelcoming. The staff seemed unfriendly, and instead of being greeted warmly, we were simply directed to a table that had not been properly cleaned. The booth was sticky, and the restaurant was not busy at the time. After ordering drinks, my glass arrived with dried red lipstick still on it. My wife’s cup had moisture on it along with a hair stuck to the side. We politely pointed out the lipstick on the glass to our server, but instead of apologizing or addressing the issue professionally, she appeared to become irritated. From that point on, it felt like our table was being ignored. We also noticed old food residue on some of the dishes that were brought to our table. Throughout the remainder of our visit, we were not provided with plates, condiments, or basic table service, and it was difficult to get anyone’s attention despite the restaurant not being crowded. The food quality was also concerning. The spicy tuna appeared discolored and did not look fresh. Combined with the condition of the dishes and overall cleanliness issues, it raised serious concerns about food handling and sanitation practices. After reading other reviews, it appears that cleanliness and service may be recurring issues. Unfortunately, our experience reflected many of those same concerns. We left feeling disappointed not only by the cleanliness issues but also by the lack of professionalism in how our concerns were handled. The food was fresh and reasonable priced. We were there Saturday for lunch and they had "Happy Hour" deals giving 50% off a bunch of popular menu items. Usually I have only seen these offered mid week during slow times. They also had several rolls that don't use rice which is great for keto. Service was quick and very good. This is a favorite of UCR students because they also provide a discount for students by showing their UCR id.
