For over ¥57,000, this place did not meet my expectations. While the service was good and the chefs were friendly, the food itself was nothing to write home about. The dishes were unique but not flavorful and lacked creativity. The sauces did a lot of heavy lifting, the wasabi was not well distributed on the sushi, and the rice was slightly undercooked. I’m not sure if we came on an off-night or what, but I wouldn’t return to Sushi Rakumi. I’m certain you could find better sushi for a lot less money elsewhere in Kyoto. Excellent experience. Highly recommend. The omakase was wonderful and everyone in our group enjoyed. Beautiful setting, classy decor, intimate small restaurant. Expert staff working hard to please the customers, they work like well oiled machine and it was fun to watch synchronize their preparations. The fatty tuna and tuna slabs shown in pictures were truly amazing. Their abalone was steamed for 6hours and was truly different than any other we have had. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
