Serving staff absolutely lovely butIt was only 4pm on a Sunday and they had ran out of our preferred choices ( lamb and turkey and chicken) so who knows what the diners at 6pm will be offered ...I was told lamb and turkey is very popular..hmm OK sherlock...so order/ cook more of it. Our actual meals(beef and pork belly) was OK ish but I wont be going there again for food ....the beer and service was very good tho. Food: 3 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 3

Disappointing experience, mainly due to the customer service We visited The Castle Inn yesterday and, unfortunately, left feeling quite disappointed. The food itself was not bad, although it certainly wasn’t great, but the main issue was the level of customer service we experienced. When we arrived, we were told that there were no tables available inside and that we could either sit in a smaller room or outside in the garden. As it wasn’t raining at the time and there were no tables available inside, we decided to sit outside. However, as is often the case with the weather in the UK, it soon started to rain. Unfortunately, there appeared to be no covered area or suitable alternative outside. I went inside and spoke to three different members of staff, explaining that we were getting wet and asking what could be done. Each time, I was simply told that there was nothing they could do. I even asked whether we were really expected to continue eating outside in the rain, but I felt that my concerns were essentially ignored. No one seemed to make any effort to find an alternative table for us. Eventually, after going outside again and finding that the rain was getting heavier, I noticed two tables together with a group of people sitting at one end of the small room. I asked a member of staff if they could please check whether the other table was available. Thankfully, it was, and we were eventually able to sit there. This was frustrating because it felt like this could have been looked into much earlier, rather than leaving us to figure it out ourselves. Unfortunately, the experience continued to be disappointing. The table had not been cleaned and still had items left from the previous guests. I asked for it to be cleaned before our food was served, but this wasn’t done. Our food was then brought to the table while the previous guests’ things were still there. The food also arrived cold, which I can understand to some extent given that the staff were trying to serve outside in the rain, but it still made for a disappointing meal. We were never checked on afterwards to see whether everything was okay or whether we were happy with our food. I appreciate that busy periods and unpredictable weather can make things difficult for staff, and I’m not expecting perfection. However, what disappointed me most was the lack of initiative and customer care. A little communication, empathy and an attempt to find a solution would have made a big difference. Sadly, based on this experience, I would have to say that the customer service needs significant improvement. We paid for the experience and left feeling that we had not been looked after as customers. Food: 2 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 3 Price per person: £50–60

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with some feedback.I apologise that you felt your issues were ignored. The Bank Holiday saw us exceptionally busy, whilst the unpredictable & inclement weather filled so much of the inside area that we were standing only. To combat this, we attempted to keep one of our dining areas within the pub as non reservable & first come first served to accommodate and make it fair for those that hadn't pre-booked; such as yourselves.I apologise that these areas were full at the time of your request to move inside. The team were rather busy dealing with the influx on guests that the rain brought in but one of the 3 people you spoke to, I can assure you the management team looked over the booking system to try and find a table in which you could eat your ordered meal prior to the booking arriving. I apologise that we had no available options at that time of which we informed you thusly. I am glad to hear you managed to find somewhere to eat your meal,I apologise for any shortcomings in service, the team were doing their best to cater to all guests fairly (both with and without reservations).I am saddened to read that you did not think the team acted with empathy to your situation. As from my perspective they went above and beyond to accommodate everyone regardless of booking made and attempted to bring all in out of the rain.Nevertheless, i shall be sharing your comments with the team in our upcoming team meeting so that we can work together to better ourselves, our business & service.Kind regards, Owen (Holding General Manager)
